Recessionista and Abercrombie and Fitch
The older I’ve gotten, the more I have realized how many things are wrong with Abercrombie. The brand does something more than sell you clothes, it sells you a way of thinking, and a way of living. Sorta like, “You are Abercrombie and Fitch, and not everyone can be that.” In our society we seem to value competition; being in some way more skilled than the person next to you and getting further in life. The problem with Abercrombie is that it instills in people the belief that, being good looking and having money is a skill that trancends all others. Hence the amount of morrons that work there…
Nevertheless, yesterday I went to their 5th Ave. store to buy a cologne for my step dad, and the cash register guy urged me to apply to work there. At first, I was like, “Not again.” But then I looked at my empty wallet, and realized that the times are hard. Being broke is possibly the worst thing you could be in a city like NYC. I gave them my contact information. I felt like a hypocrite, but in these times, how often do people just hand you jobs? Besides, all I have to do is say hi to people, dance, and cope with all the douchebags…How hard can it be?
